RESTORATION

Through its Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Program, the District along with the help of state agencies, local governments and other organizations, focuses on water quality and habitat restoration projects. One example of a restoration project, Ulele Springs, was previously discussed. Other examples along the Hillsborough River include the Stewart Middle School Shoreline Restoration Project, which addressed erosion issues and planted native vegetation along the riverbank; the River Garden Shoreline Restoration Project, which established wetlands along the riverbank to provide habitat and improve water quality; and the Reed Property Shoreline Restoration Project, which combined habitat restoration with stormwater treatment to improve water quality.
